Twelve workers have been injured in an explosion at the distillery of the sarbottam steel factory in Birgunj. 

The condition of seven of the injured is critical while the condition of five others is normal, according to Parsa Police.

Parsa Police Chief Superintendent of Police Bel Bahadur Pandey informed Media that the liquid spilled when the company’s iron-smelting furnace exploded.

Pandey said that most of the injured were Indian nationals and were undergoing treatment at Vayodha Hospital. He said the fire was brought under control with the help of the fire brigade and further investigation was underway.

The injured have been identified as Binod Pandey, 52, of Bihar, Santosh Kushwaha, 52, of Lucknow, Sushil Kumar, 20, Mansiya, 37, Ra Pukar Yadav, 30, and Tinku Das, 22, of Bara Chhatarpur. Their condition is critical, police said.

Dhiru Sahani, 35, of Khushinagar, India, Chinku Das, 26, of Lucknow, Amarnath Sahani, 18, of Lucknow, UP, Deepak Kumar, 21, of Bihar, India and Ravinku Das, 18, of Darbhanga, India are in normal condition.
