New Delhi: Santosh Anand, the great lyricist of the Hindi film industry, was completely alone when he needed his loved ones the most. When the lyricist reached the stage of ‘Indian Idol’ with an ocean of sorrow in his heart, hearing his sad story, the eyelids of crores of people got wet. Suffering the biggest sorrow of life, when he said from the stage, ‘courage is not broken, leg is broken’, everyone’s head was bowed in respect and love for him.
Who knows the pain of losing a son better than Santosh Anand, whose son Sankalp Anand committed suicide in 2014 along with his wife. At the age of 83, when the body starts giving up, then life gave him the deepest wounds. He told about the financial crunch on the stage of ‘Dian Idol’. At that time, he was also finding it difficult to pay small bills.
Santosh Anand’s son Sankalp was born after ten years of marriage. It is said that his son was suffering from mental problems and had gone to suicide before writing a 10-page suicide note, in which he had accused several senior officials of forcing him to commit suicide. There was also mention of embezzlement of crores of rupees in the letter. Please tell that Sankalp used to teach Criminology and Sociology to IAS level officers in the Home Ministry.

Both had ended their lives by coming in front of the train on the railway track near Kosikalan town. The daughter had a narrow escape in that accident. After the passing of the son, he has started spending time alone. Let us tell you that Santosh Anand, born in Secunderabad, Bulandshahr, wrote the most memorable song ‘Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai’ for the film ‘Shor’. He wrote great songs like ‘Zindagi Ki Na Toote Ladi’ and ‘Mohabbat Hai Kya Cheez’.

Santosh Anand worked as a librarian in Delhi. Due to his fondness for poems, he used to attend poets’ conferences. The moment of his life came in 1970, when he got the opportunity to write songs for the film for the first time and that film was ‘Purab Aur Paschim’ in which his song ‘Purva Suhani Aai Re’ became very famous. He received many awards including Filmfare Award for his songs. Today, even though he may be seen passing the day in poverty, but the mind and soul of the poet and lyricist are very prosperous.
