Ecuador prison clash: The death toll from a clash at an Ecuadorian prison has risen to more than 100.

The death toll from clashes between inmates has risen to 116. More than 50 others have been injured.

The condition of many of the injured is critical, police said. The clash took place at a jail in the coastal town of Guayaquil on Tuesday. According to the BBC, five people were found beheaded.

The prison housed members of a global drug gang. Citing local media, the BBC reported that a gang of powerful Mexican drug traffickers was involved in the incident inside the prison.

Four hundred police have been deployed there since the incident.
