Fatema Sumar arrives Nepal

Fatema Sumar, Vice President of the US Agency for International Development (MCC) Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), has arrived in Kathmandu for a four-day visit to Nepal

She arrived in Kathmandu via Qatar some time ago.

According to a source, Vice President Sumar has come to Kathmandu to understand the progress of the MCC project related to US grant assistance in Nepal. Her visit is being watched with interest as there is a debate in Nepal over whether to accept the MCC project.

During his four-day stay in Nepal, Vice President Sumar is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Finance Minister Janardan Sharma and other top leaders of various political parties to discuss the status of implementation of the MCC project.

Security has been tightened in Kathmandu targeting her arrival and possible protests against the MCC. A team of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force has been deployed in Sinamangal, Thapathali, Naya Baneshwor, Putalisadak, Maitighar and Maharajgunj since Thursday morning.

The MCC project, which is expected to be implemented in 2019, has not been able to move forward due to political tensions in Nepal.
