Parasi Bazar submerges due to flood of Jharahi river, one missing

Parasi Bazar, the district headquarters of Nawalparasi West, has been inundated due to heavy rains since Thursday night. The water has overflowed in the Jharhi River flowing through Parasi and the flood of the Ravan Khanda River has flooded the market.

Most of the marketplaces have been inundated due to the floods. Hundreds of houses in the market have been inundated. The flood-hit Parasi Bazar’s Ramgram municipality ward no. 1 Ko Sahuvatikar, Ward no. 2 Ko Masjid Toll, Haat Bazaar Toll, Ward no. Mayor Nagendra Gupta said that Sangam Toll of 3, Maltol, Loktantrik Toll, Administration Toll Drive Toll of Ward No. 5, Imli Toll, Buddha Chowk Toll, and Pokhara Pali Toll of Ward No. 6 have been completely inundated.

According to Raju Lama, Deputy Inspector at the District Police Office, the floods have inundated 2 to 5 feet of floodwater in various government offices including the District Administration Office, District Police Office, and Army Barracks.

Hundreds of homes were flooded, damaging food, clothing, and furniture.

DSP Lama said that the details of the damage caused by the floods and inundation could not be collected as the rains did not stop. Hari Sharma, a local resident of Parasi and district president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists, said that many families living in one-story houses were forced to spend the night on the roof of their houses due to the floods.

The floods have also inundated Sarawal, Palhinandan, Pratappur, and Susta villages of the district and some wards of Bardaghat municipality, according to police.

14-year-old missing

Sunwal Municipality Ward. A 14-year-old boy of 4 has gone missing. Police suspect that he was swept away in the flood as the settlement was flooded. He is being searched.
