A contract agreement has been signed for the construction of a well-organized settlement of the Santhal caste in Urlabari of Morang district.
The agreement has been reached under the program of uplifting the minorities and endangered castes and settling them in organized and integrated settlements.
Chief of the Federal Project Implementation Unit under the Ministry of Urban Development, Ganga Prasad Yadav, informed that a settlement is being constructed on the banks of Ratoholi River in Urlabari Municipality of Morang.
He said, “The contractor company has already received the work order for the construction of Santhal Basti. Now the work will start soon.”
Earlier, the preparation of the master plan and detailed project report (DPR) for the construction of the settlement has been completed.
The then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had laid the foundation stone for the construction of the settlement on March 2 last year.
According to unit chief Yadav, the construction of the integrated settlement will be completed within the next two years. Sagun Sharma (Joint Venture) has been entrusted with the construction at a total cost of Rs. 180 million.
At present, 70 Santhal families are living in a house made of reed and thatched roof on the river bank. There is news in Gorkhapatra daily.
