The deadline for the people’s representatives of the UML and JSP to be elected after the new ordinance on political parties is coming to an end today.
The CPN-UML and the Janata Samajwadi Party split after the President issued an ordinance on August 18 recommending that the party be divided on the basis of 20 percent MPs and central members.
The Election Commission (EC) had given a deadline till today to elect the people’s representatives to the split CPN (Unified Socialist) and the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP).
During this period, the provincial assemblies of all the seven provinces and the people’s representatives at the local level are electing divided parties.
Leaders of the Madhav Nepal-led CPN-U have said that 22 percent of the people’s representatives have reached the state. In Province 2 and in the Far Western Province, a larger unified socialist party has been formed than the UML.
